Historical Context
The Swedish Consumptive Sanatorium was incorporated in Colorado on March 10, 1905 and was located in Englewood.
Funding for the facility mainly came from the United States' Swedish population, which was constructed to help treat tuberculosis or, as it was known then, "white plague." Colorado's high altitude, low humidity and abundant sunshine were considered to be the perfect combination to treat the disease.
In 1909, the company became the Swedish National Sanatorium.
