Historical Context
Chain Store Shareowners, Inc. was an investment trust formed on November 29, 1930.
Each 100 shares of the corporation's stock initially represented one share each of 35 different chain store companies. The trust, which was formed to spur sales in the struggling retail market, was offered by Merrill Lynch.
The fund did not stop the industry's slide however, and was discontinued in 1932.
