Historical Context
The Butte Electric Railway Company was incorporated in West Virginia and operated in Butte, Montana.
The company's roots date back to 1886 with the incorporation of the Butte City Street Railroad Company. The following year the company became the Butte Consolidated Railway before becoming the Butte Electric Railway Company in 1899.
The company operated until 1937 when streetcar service was discontinued and the company began bus service under the name Butte City Lines.
