Historical Context
The Philadelphia City Passenger Railway was incorporated 1859 running a line along Chestnut and Walnut Streets. It was later leased in 1884 to the West Philadelphia Passenger Railway Company.
The company's lines were part of Philadelphia's massive trolley system and eventually became part of the Philadelphia Traction Company.
