Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from the Altoona Midway Oil Company dating back to the early 1900's. This document, which contains the signatures of the company President and Treasurer, was printed by Goes and measures approximately 10 1/4" (w) by 8 1/4" (h).
This certificate's vignette features a broad oil field scene which includes a long train. There is also an underprint at the bottom center of the piece of an arm holding a torch.
A nice grouping of four revenue stamps are adhered to the back of the piece and are shown in the fourth picture above.
The Altoona Midway Oil Company was incorporated in Delaware in 1902 by a group of Altoona, Pennsylvania businessmen.
The company operated in the Midway field in Kern County, California. The Midway field was located between the McKittrick and Sunset fields, northeast of the mountainous belt that separated the Cariso and Kern valleys.
The company was re-incorporated as a California entity in 1909.
