Historical Context
A.M. Byers’ roots date back to 1864 when the original company was founded as Graff, Byers & Company. A.M. Byers was actually incorporated in 1903, and manufactured pig iron, and wrought iron pipe. Byers operated mills and blast furnaces in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Girard, Ohio (the Girard Iron Company).
In 1925, the company acquired the Orient Coal & Coke Company Company which was incorporated in Pennsylvania.
Byers was merged into General Tire and Rubber Company in 1970.
