Historical Context
The New York City and Westchester Railway Company was incorporated in New York in 1888 to build a line from Portchester in Westchester County down into New York City. The line was to parrallel the line of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.
The company was in existence for 10 years, but no construction ever occured.
The company's charter was forfeited in 1898, and its assets - along with the assets of the New York, Westchester & Boston Railway - were consolidated to form the Subway and Westchester Construction Company.
