Historical Context
The Eddy Lake Cypress Company was incorporated in South Carolina in 1899 and set up a lumber mill on small lake off the Pee Dee River. Lumber was floated down the river from the company's land holdings.
The company also owned the town of Eddy Lake which was built to house the company's officers and employees, and built the Eddy Lake and Northern Railroad to serve their timber interests.
The company's mill burned down in 1909.
