Historical Context
Construction of the Scioto Valley Railway was completed in 1887.
Twelve years later, the Scioto Valley Railway reorganized as the Scioto Valley & New England Railroad, and was subsequently sold to the Norfolk & Western Railroad to become its Scioto Division.
The route of the railroad extended from Columbus, Ohio, southerly through the counties of Franklin, Pickaway, Ross, Pike, Scioto and Lawrence, and terminated at Petersburgh, Ohio, a distance of 131 miles.
