Additional Details
Fascinating piece of financial history from this gasoline giant!
Amoco began in 1889 as Standard Oil of Indiana, a division of the Standard Oil trust. It became an independent company in 1911 and opened its first service station in 1912. The company officially changed its name to Amoco in 1985 before merging with BP in 1998 to form BP Amoco. The company eventually rebranded back to the Amoco name in select U.S. markets in 2017.
