Historical Context
The Consolidated Telephone Companies of Pennsylvania was incorporated under Pennsylvania law in August of 1901. The company was a successor to the Schuylkill Valley Telephone and Telegraph Company, which had been formed earlier that year. In 1902, the company established a plant in Berks County with a central exchange in Reading. The American Union Telephone Company acquired a controlling interest in the company in 1908. |
