Historical Context
The North American Company was organized in 1922 to finance the acquisition of the common stock of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. A year later, the company acquired various Wisconsin utilities from Wisconsin Edison.
The company was controlled by the North American Company and was basically used by the latter to acquire new utilities and limit govenment scrutiny on the North American Company.
