Historical Context
Bagels, U. S. A., Inc. was incorporated in Florida in 1968 and was based in Miami. The company, which operated a chain of bagel shops, was headed by swindler Harold Glantz - who had ties with the Genovese crime family.
In August of 1970, the Securities Exchange Commission to issue an order permanently suspending Bagels, U.S.A., Inc. from offering stock to the public as a result of its failure to disclose the identity of all persons who owned stock and failure to disclose all the outstanding loans made to it.
Glantz was arrested in April of 1994 in New York on an extradition warrant from the Netherlands, where he and a Dutch associate were charged with stealing $4.36 million from the Salvation Army and $775,000 from John C. Hammeke, a private investor from Kansas.
