Historical Context
The Burley Tobacco Company was formed in Kentucky in 1909 and was made up of independent growers of bright tobacco. They sold their tobacco to a holding company who then distributed it to the larger tobacco companies. It was one of the many trusts that sprang up around that time that sought to get around the American Tobacco Company's monopoly.
In 1919, the name was changed to the Burley Tobacco Company of Cynthiana. The company lasted well into the late 1920's until it was absorbed by the R.A. Patterson Company, who had been using their tobacco in its Lucky Strike and Half and Half brands for quite some time.
