Beautifully engraved antique bond certificate from the Kentucky and South Atlantic Railway Company dating back to the 1880's. This document, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by the American Bank Note Company, and measures approximately 11" (w) by 15 1/2" (h).
This certificate's intricate vignette features a train at busy station flanked by male and female figures with cherubs.
A full page of coupons remains attached at the right side margin.

Historical Context
This company was originally incorporated as the Mount Sterling Coal Road in 1874. The name was changed to the Kentucky and South Atlantic Railway Company in 1882.
In 1887, the the company became the Kentucky and South Atlantic Railroad Company before being succeeded by the Lexington and Big Sandy Railroad in 1902.
The line later became part of the Chesapeake & Ohio system.
