Historical Context
The Cairo and Norfolk Railroad Company was chartered under the laws of Kentucky in 1908 to build a road from Cairo, Illinois to Norfolk, Virginia, a distance of about 800 miles.
The company did manage to complete a line from Wickliffe to Winford, Kentucky, a distance of 11 miles, before running into financial problems and entering receivership.
The line was abandoned prior to 1920.
