Intricately engraved antique stock certificate with multiple vignettes from the Alden Type Setting & Distributing Machine Company dating back to the 1800's. This document was printed by R. Thew, Sc. New York, and measures approximately 11" (w) by 7" (h).
Very interesting piece that features four fantastic vignettes, including Timothy Alden and his invention. Great example of 19th century scripophily.

In 1857 a patent was granted on a type setting machine invented by Timothy Alden. The type was arranged in cells around the circumference of a horizontal wheel. As the wheel moved, receivers started to rotate. The desired type was picked up and dropped in proper order in a line.
