Historical Context
This bank dates back to 1811 when it was formed as the Bank of Newburgh. The original bank was on the north side of Third Street. When the National Banking Act was passed by Congress in 1863, the bank immediately began the process of becoming a national bank. On July 1, 1864, the company became the National Bank of Newburgh. The bank operated as an independent local institution for almost 100 more years. In 1958, the bank merged with the National Bank of Orange County. |
