Historical Context

The Universal Aerial Navigation Co. was incorporated in Arizona in 1910 and was based in St. Louis, Missouri.

The company constructed a futuristic airship known as the gyroplane which supposedly combined the benefits of a plane and a helicopter. The airships, which are featured on the vignette of this piece, were to made out of steel and aluminum.

The company's goal was to build a unit that could up to 100 passengers and fly at 10 mph and become a viable commercial transportation company.

The company never reached the production stage and went out of business.
