Historical Context
The Uncas National Bank of Norwich dated back to 1865. The bank merged with the Merchants National Bank in 1928 to form the Uncas-Merchants National Bank.
This incarnation then merged with the Hartford National Bank & Trust in 1955. In 1969, the Hartford National Bank and Trust Company became the first completely owned subsidiary bank of the newly established Hartford National Corporation.
The Hartford National Corporation merged with Shawmut National Corporation, which later merged with Fleet Bank in 1995.
Fleet eventually became part of Bank of America.
