Historical Context
The Steel Tubular Car Company was incorporated in Virginia in 1887 to erect a large plant in Bradford, McKean County, Pennsylvania to build rail cars.
The cars were the invention of John W. Post and were to have a steel tubular framework. The company, which rose out of the ashes of the Iron Car Company and its previous iteration, the United States Tube Rolling Stock Company, promoted the cars as fireproof and indestructable.
While the company had grand designs to be another Pullman, it only ever existed on paper, not producing a single car.
