Historical Context
The Standard Telephone and Telegraph Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania on April 12, 1898 and operated in Bucks County. Company offices were located in Newtown. The company's telephone service never really matched the competition forcing it to charge a lower rate. This resulted in a revenue shortfall leading the company into receivership in 1905. The property and franchises of the company were sold to R. D. Brown in September 1905 for $50,000. |
