Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from S. W. Straus & Co. Incorporated dating back to the 1930's. This document, which is signed by the company Vice President and Assistant Secretary, was printed by the American Bank Note Company and measures approximately 11 1/4" (w) by 7 1/2" (h).
The piece's vignette a helmeted soldier atop a stately horse.
The S. W. Straus & Company was founded in 1882 by S. W. Straus. It operated out of the Straus Buildings in New York City; Chicago, Illinois, and San Francisco, California.
The company was involved with investment bonds, and is credited for offering the first mortgage real estate bond in 1909.
S. W. Straus went bankrupt in 1933, never fully recovering from the Crash of 1929.
