Additional Details
Fascinating piece of financial history from this aviation giant.
Martin Marietta Materials originated from the 1939 founding of Superior Stone in North Carolina, which merged with American-Marietta in 1959. The larger company, Martin Marietta Corporation, was formed in 1961 by a merger between the Glenn L. Martin Company (an aerospace company) and American-Marietta. In 1995, the parent corporation merged with Lockheed, and the materials business was then spun off as the independent company Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. in 1996.
