Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from the Poughkeepsie City and Wappingers Falls Electric Railway Company dating back to the 1890's. This document, which has been signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by Franklin Bank Note Company and measures approximately 10" (w) by 13 1/2" (h).
The certificate features a pair of trolleys on a busy city street.
Almost a page and a half of coupons remain attached at the top margin.

Historical Context
The Poughkeepsie City and Wappingers Falls Electric Railway Company was incorporated on October 14, 1893, under the railroad law, filing of certificate legalized by special act passed March 22, 1894. The company was originally known as the Poughkeepsie City Horse Railway Company.
Three other lines were later merged into the company:
- The City Rail Road Company of Poughkeepsie
- The Poughkeepsie and Wappingers Falls Street Surface Railroad Company
- The South Avenue Surface Rail Road Company
Lines of the company extends in various directions in the city of Poughkeepsie, and southerly to the town of Poughkeepsie, Vassar College (Main Street division), South Side division, and the village of Wappingers Falls.
These included:
- Main Street Division, which ran from the Hudson River to the Poughkeepsie city line, 1.92 miles first track and 1.14 miles second track.
- City Line to Vassar College, 0.95 miles single track.
- North Side Division, Washington and Main Streets to Smith and Main Streets, 2.36 miles single track.
- South Side Division: Main and Market Streets to city line on Hooker Avenue, 0.91 mile single track.
- City Line on Hooker Avenue to city line on Grand Avenue, 1.02 miles single track.
- City line on Grand Avenue to city line on Grand Avenue, 0.36 mile single track.
- City line on Grand Avenue to Main Street on Grand avenue, 0.05 mile single track.
- Wappingers Falls Division, Montgomery and Market streets to city line, 0.91 mile single track.
- City line to Wappingers Falls, 6.66 miles single track.
- Leased line (Hospital branch,) North street to Hudson River State Hospital (Central New England railway), 1.50 miles single track (on private right of way).
In all, the company operated over 16 miles of track.
