Historical Context
The Pittsburgh, Allegheny and Manchester Traction Company was organized on December 14, 1889, and on July 25, 1890, took over the leases of the Pittsburgh, Allegheny and Manchester Passenger Railway and the Pittsburgh Union Passenger Railway.
The company immediately contracted to equip the roads with the necessary apparatus, and to operate them as electric roads. The reconstruction was completed in the summer of 1881, and the operation of the road with electric power was commenced October 1, 1891.
The leases were assigned to the United Traction Company - which owned the capital stock of the company - on July 9, 1907.
