Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from the Philadelphia City Passenger Railway Company dating back to the 1870's. This document, which has been signed by the company President and Treasurer, was printed by the American Bank Note Company, and measures approximately 11" (w) by 6 3/4" (h).
This certificate features three nice vignettes. An allegorical female figure representing Agriculture appears at the top, a farmer with a horse and a dog can be seen at the left side and a large masted ship at the right.

The Philadelphia City Passenger Railway was incorporated 1859 running a line along Chestnut and Walnut Streets. It was later leased in 1884 to the West Philadelphia Passenger Railway Company.
The company's lines eventually became part of the Philadelphia Traction Company.
