Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Parkersburg, Marietta and Inter-Urban Railway Co. dating back to the early 1900's. This document, which has been signed by the company President and Secretary, and measures approximately 10 1/2" (w) by 8 1/4" (h).
This certificate's vignette features the West Virginia State Seal.

Historical Context
The Parkersburg, Marietta and Inter-Urban Railway Co. was formed in West Virginia in 1902 as a consolidation of Parkersburg's and Marietta's independent trolley lines.
Service to Williamstown was added in 1903 after the bridge between Williamstown and Marietta was completed.
On June 11, 1915, the company was merged into the Kanawha Traction and Electric Company.
Service on the line was discontinued in 1947.
