Historical Context

Pan Hemisphere Transport, Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in 1968 and was based in New York.

The company operated a small fleet of cryogenic ships that provided transportation services to ports in the Gulf of Mexico, West Indies, Caribbean, Central America and the North Coast of South America.

Cryogenic shipping involved delivering liquefied fuel gases and chemicals - such as vinyl chloride monomer and anhydrous ammonia - at temperatures below zero and at densities that reduced their volume to as little as 1/600th of normal.
