Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Middlesex Railroad Company dating back to the 1880's. This document, which has been signed by the company President and Treasurer, was printed by the American Bank Note Company and measures approximately 11" (w) by 7 1/2" (h).

The Middlesex Railroad Company was incoporated in Massachusetts on April 29, 1854. The line opened from Charlestown Neck to Stillman Street three years later.
In August 1886, the lines was consolidated with the Highland Street Railway to form the the Boston Consolidated Street Railway Company.
