Historical Context
The May Virginia Gold Mining & Milling Co. was incorporated in Alabama in January of 1888.
The company owned 740 acres of mineral lands - originally known as the Waldo Mine, or Riddle's Mill Hold - in Riddle's Mills, about six miles outside of Talladega.
The company did produce about 20 tons of ore per day for a while but could not sustain the production and went out of business.
