Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Massanetta Park Company dating back to the 1890's. This document, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, measures approximately 11 1/2 (w) by 7 3/4" (h).
Beautiful piece with a vignette of the company's well.
The Massanetta Park Company was incorporated in Virginia and marketed Massanetta Water for Dr. Burke Chrisman. The water was taken from the local Massenetta spring system and artificially carbonated, before being marketed as a naturally carbonated cure all elixir.
An advertisement in an 1891 edition of Cosmopolitan claimed the product "has no equal for the positive cure of all forms of Malarial troubles, and as an adjunct in the treatment of Nervous Prostration and Insomnia; being a decided nervine. For Inflammation of the Bladder, Scalding Urine, Luecorrhea and Diabetes, its action is soothing, prompt and permanent. It is the most powerful diuretic and depurent we handle."
Other company brochures claimed the product treated kidney failure and calmed fussy babies.
The company's offices were located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.
