Nicely engraved antique stock certificate from the Los Angeles and Vernon Street Railway Company dating back to the 1890's. This document, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by the Times Mirror Printing and Binding House of Los Angeles, and measures approximately 9 1/2" (w) by 5 1/4" (h). 

 

This certificate features a vignette of a horse drawn trolley at the bottom.

    Historical Context

    The Los Angeles and Vernon Street Railway Company was incorporated in California on July 20, 1887.

    The company operated a horsecar line on Central Avenue from 5th Street to Vernon Avenue.

    It was purchased by the Los Angeles Consolidated Electric Railway in 1891.
