The Lewiston, Greene and Monmouth Telephone Company was incorporated in Maine in 1905 to build a telephone system serving Auburn, Lewiston, turner, Lisbon, Webster, Wales, Greene, Leeds, East Livermore and Livermore in Androscoggin County; Buckfield and Hartford in Oxford County; Litchfield, West Gardner, Gardner, MOnmouth, Farmingdale, Hallowell, Augusta, Manchester, Vassalboro, China, Sidney, Waterville, Readfield, Wayne and Winthrop in Kennebec County.
The independent telephone company operated under the same name for decades before becoming CommTel.
