Intricately engraved antique stock certificate from the Lerner Stores Corporation dating back to the 1950's. This document, which carries the printed signatures of the company President and Secretary, was printed by Quayle & Son and measures approximately 12" (w) by 8" (h).

Lerner Shops was founded in 1918 by Samuel A. Lerner and Harold M Lane in New York City. The company was eventually incorporated in Maryland in 1929.
At the company's peak, the women's discount chain operated over 750 stores - making it the largest retailer in the segment.
Lerner was purchased in 1973 by McCrory Corporation - a subsidiary of the Rapid-American Corporation. McCrory operated J. J. Newberry and McCrory.
Rapid-American sold the Lerner division to The Limited in 1985.
