Historical Context
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Journeay and Burnham was a supplier of all things sartorial. Brooklyn ladies traveled to the shopping district of Atlantic Avenue to purchase everything from corsets and gowns to parasols and hats at this four-story emporium.
The company was originally founded in 1844 by Henry P. Journeay and Lyman S. Burnham. The company was reorganized in 1891 after the death of Journeay.
Journeay and Burnham failed in 1907.
