Incorporated in the state of Maine in 1904, the Illinois Traction Company was a conglomeration of fifteen regional traction lines (including the Kankakee & Urbana Traction Company and the Illinois Terminal Railroad), gas, heating & electrical companies.
Interestingly, at one time the president of the company was Clement Studebaker, Jr., son of the legendary automobile pioneer. The company was later acquired by the Illinois Power & Light Company.
