Historical Context
The Hoosac Tunnel and Mining Company was incorporated in Colorado and had properties in Idaho Springs.
The company's "property and privileges" included five patented claims covering 32 acres of placer ground, a tunnel site, water rites and the rights pertaining to a transportation tunnel.
The company sold stock through aggressive newspaper advertising, touting the transportation tunnel as an efficient way for all of the areas mining companies to harvest their ore, and promising investors an annual return of over 100% every year.
The company appears to have been nothing more than a paper company, as their assets were sold at auction in 1913 for a mere $40,000.
