Historical Context
The Gurleys & Paint Rock Valley Railway Company was incorporated under the laws of Alabama and Tennessee in 1891.
The line was formed in a plan to open up and develop the extensive timber and mineral stores in the Paint Rock Valley. The railroad would run from Gurley in the south, through Trenton, Queencity, Claycross (Princeton), Larkins and Estil, near the north end of the Valley. It would ultimately connect Deposit on the Tennessee River with Winchester in Tennessee.
The line had never ending financial problems and eventually the assets were purchased by the Southern Railway.
