    Historical Context

    The Germantown Avenue Elevated Passenger Railway Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania by the Mack-Foederer Sydicate on June 8, 1901.

    The line ran from Front Street along Germantown Avenue to the Germantown & Perkiomen Turnpike, to the county line.

    In 1903, the line was merged into the Market Street Elevated Passenger Railway Company, along with:

    • Broad Street Subway Passenger Railway Company,
    • Frankford Elevated Passenger Railway Company
    • Passyunk Avenue Elevated Passenger Railway Company
    • Ridge Avenue Elevated Passenger Railway Company
