Beautifully engraved antique stock certificate from the Florence Rail Road & Improvement Co. dating back to the 1880's. This document, which is signed by the company President and Secretary, was printed by Budden & Son and measures approximately 11 3/4" (w) by 6 3/4" (h).
The certificate's primary vignette features a train flanked by a pair of industrial scenes. There are also two cherub scenes in the border area, one of which includes a lion, the other an eagle.
Rarely seen piece with many intricate details!
The Florence Rail Road & Improvement Co. was incorporated in Alabama in 1888.
The company was responsible for developing the Florence area through land improvements and the introduction of a rail line to the area.
In 1897, it became part of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad system.
