Historical Context
The Ely Consolidated Copper Company was organized on October 2, 1906, under laws of Utah, with capitalization of $10,000,000, shares $1 par, assessable. Stock was listed on the Salt Lake stock exchange and the New York curb.
The company owned 15 claims, covering about 300 acres, on the south side of the mineral belt, near the Ruth and Jupiter groups of the Nevada Consolidated, which was purchased for about $100,000.
The company's mine had 3 vertical shafts. The principal shaft was the Zack which went to a depth og 360 feet. The 625' Brilliant shaft had silver-lead ore on the 400' level, and near the bottom was said to show a 100' bed of disseminated copper ore, below commercial grade. The American shaft was 500' deep.
The mine never proved to be a major producer, and the company struggled on for a few years with mixed returns.
