    Historical Context

Incorporated in Toledo, Ohio in 1908, Doehler Die Casting was the major caster of American hood ornaments up until the 1930’s. Originally located in Brooklyn, Doehler moved to Batavia, New York in 1921. The company’s founder, H.H. Doehler, wanted his company to be closer to one of his major customers – Kodak.

Doehler bought out Jarvis in 1946, to form the Doehler Jarvis Company. The casting logo was changed to A J superimposed over A D. Prior to 1946, Doehler made the castings and sold them to Jarvis who did the final finishing work. Doehler produced hood ornaments for many of the American car manufacturers, including Packard.
