Historical Context
The Denver, Cripple Creek and Southwestern Railroad Company was formed in 1896 for the purpose of running a line from Denver through the South Platte and Plum Creek Forest Preserves to Cripple Creek, Victor and Silver Cliff; and then on to New Mexico and Arizona.
The Colorado & Southern bought the railroad’s franchise in 1899 for use as the basis of a line built in 1902 from South Platte to Nighthawk.
The line was dissolved in 1913.
