Historical Context
This company owned property which consisted of the Roanoke, which had an area of four acres, and the Palmer Placer, covering a total of 19 acres, both being located on Mineral Hill, in Cripple Creek, Colorado.
The company had 2,000 feet of development work on the Roanoke, which included 335 feet of shafting. It was claimed there was a full plant of machinery which, however, was considered too light for the mine, and had to be replaced by heavier machinery. Just as the company began it's shipments of ore, it had to suspend further operations as water flooded the mine, and the labor troubles interfered with the help.
The property was originally owned by the president, William F. Burns, who subsequently sold it to the company and accepted one half the stock of the company in payment for the same. The company is not working its property, and will not resume operations until the labor troubles have ben settled.
Two liens were filed against the company in 1899, and shortly thereafter, the company's shaft-house burned down. There is no indication the company ever recovered.
