Historical Context
This company was a successor to the Chicago, Wisconsin and Canada Railway - which was a consolidation of the Chicago and Northern Pacific Air Line Railroad of Wisconsin, the Chicago and Northern Pacific Air Line Railroad of Illinois and the Chicago and Lake Superior Railroad Company of Wisconsin.
The road was planned to run from Superior City, Wisconsin to Chicago, Illinois, a distance of about 400 miles; with branch lines from St. Paul Junction to Augusta (44 miles), Ashland Junction to Wisconsin Central Junction (19 miles), and York Centre to Burnett Junction (28.5 miles).
The company's grand plan never was completed and the line failed in late 1881.
On Janaury 24, 1882, the Chicago Tribune reported that the line was sold to the Chicago, St, Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway.
