Historical Context
The Chesapeake and Western Railroad Company was incorporated in Virginia on January 22, 1892 as the Chesapeake, Shendun and Western Railroad Company. On May 14, 1895, the company's name was changed to the Chesapeake and Western Railroad Company.
The line - which was controlled by the Chesapeake Western Railway - extended 26.67 miles within the state of Virginia from Elkton Junction to Bridgewater.
