Historical Context
The Chesapeake and Ohio Grain Elevator Company, incorporated in New Jersey on July 12, 1882, and was a subsidiary of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company.
The company was formed to build a grain elevator and warehouse in Newport News, Virginia.
The grain elevator was destroyed by fire on September 4, 1915, and was not rebuilt.
