![]() In 1864, the company offered the first route between San Francisco and the Hawaiian Islands. One of the company's vessels - the T. C. Walker (which is pictured in the certificate's stunning vignette - was involved in the then-most disastrous accident in the history of Stockton. Near Fourteen Mile Slough, part of one of the boilers of the steamer was blown out, killing five. The company was eventually purchased by the California Transportation Company. |
