Historical Context
The Boston Consolidated Street Railway Company was formed in August 1886 as a consolidation of the Middlesex Railroad and the Highland Street Railway. The following year, the Boston Consolidated Street Railway was merged into the West End Street Railway Company. At the same time, the West End absorbed the Metropolitan Railroad and the South Boston Railroad. The line was one of Boston's numerous trolley companies formed during the mid to late 1800's. |
